Travel Tips

Traveling to Puerto Escondido requires two flights.  The first is into Mexico City International Airport (MEX) and the second is into the Puerto Escondido Airport (PXM) which is located about 15 minutes from the resort.

There are several airlines including United, American and Delta that fly from Boston and Newark.  Check all of them frequently before making a decision as flights get added and dropped by all carriers.

  1. Go through customs (passports required)
  2. Exit the baggage claim area and head left.

If you are flying to Puerto using Aeromexico or Aeromar…

  1. When you see the number 7 sign on the right keep walking and take the next escalator up (it will be on your left)
  2. Off the escalator turn left and take the small stairs (3 steps I think) up to the air train (down the hall on the right)
  3. Show them your boarding passes for Aeromar
  4. When you get off the air train, head out towards the main area of terminal 2 and immediately on your left you will see security.  Go through that (show boarding pass and passport)
  5. For Aeromar, when you get through security, take a left and walk until you see the airline check-in counters on the left.  You will see an opening right before them, go through it and down to gate 75C for Puerto Escondido.
If you are flying to Puerto using Volaris or Viva Aerobus

1.  You are already in the correct terminal.  Ask for directions to the ticketing counter for your airlines.

Orbitz (www.orbitz.com)

Using Orbitz you can select flights from Aeromexico, Volaris, Aeromar and Viva Aerobus.  If you plan on staying overnight in Mexico City there are several hotels at the airport and great restaurants as well.  this opens up flight availability.  If you plan on arriving the day you leave then Aeromar’s 2:50PM-4:20PM flight is the one for you.  You will have enough time to land, go through customs in Mexico City, get on the air train and go through security for your flight to Puerto Escondido.

The trick is to bring small suitcases that fit overhead so that you don’t need to check baggage.  Aeromar can have very long lines or no lines at all but it’s a gamble.  We have gone through security with our large suitcases and explained to them that the counter told us to go through security with them and gate check and they’ve let us do that.  Just make sure you don’t bring large shampoo bottles or liquids.

Depending on the day you return you will have different flight options back.

Cost for these flights is typically between $100 and $170 per person, round-trip.

Once you arrive, you will be picked up by a driver and brought to the resort.  We can arrange for a shuttle (up to 6 people and suitcases) for $1200 Mexican Pesos round-trip.  That is about $60 US.

The day before you leave (assuming you are traveling Aeromar)

  1. Browse to Aeromar.mx
  2. Click on Web Check-in at the top right of the screen
  3. Enter the Reservation Key and your last name and hit submit.
  4. Print your boarding pass.  You will need this for the air train from Terminal 1 (where you land) to Terminal 2 (Aeromar).
If you are flying Volaris or any other airline, make sure you check in and pay for any bags on-line as it is more expensive at the airport.

Los Tres Reyes will deliver your vehicle to the airport.

Each Bedroom is Air Conditioned with Wall Units.  After turning power on and selecting your temperature (20c is 68 degrees) hit the mode button until you see three drops on the left.  This will help reduce the humidity and make the room very comfortable.

Puerto Escondido has a huge grocery store called Chedraui.  It has fresh produce, dairy, fruits, vegetables meats, fish, breads and a huge assortment of canned goods, boxed goods, a pharmacy, beer and liquor.  It is also a great place to get Mexican Pesos if you forgot to do that before leaving or if you ran out during your trip.
